Hazardous waste includes products that are toxic, poisonous, corrosive, flammable, reactive or explosive (pressurized containers). Hazardous materials are found in many household products including compact fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, household cleaners and toiletries.
Many hazardous products can be avoided entirely or replaced with less harmful substitutes. If you can’t avoid using some hazardous products, safe disposal is very important – these materials should never be put in the garbage or poured down the drain.
Items are accepted free of charge and must be separated from other waste streams.
CLICK HERE for a complete list of accepted items.
HHW is accepted at all six transfer stations. Find your nearest station here.
A WRWM Card is required to access the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off sites located at the waste disposal sites. Hazardous materials must be dropped-off in the area designated for Household Hazardous Waste.
Used Oil and Paint are accepted at WRWM’s waste disposal sites but there are other drop-off options available through provincial programs.
Used Oil
Used lubricating, crankcase, gear oil and transmission fluid can be returned to an oil retailer, free of charge.
Paint
Leftover paint products and containers can be recycled through Product Care Association’s PaintRecycle program.
